You know how people say, "Do what you love," when they are suggesting what to do with your life, particularly parents, as a way to make money? So annoying, right? I love watching Dr. Phil, but how is that going to pay my mortgage? I love laying by the pool, but no one is lining up to see me in a swimsuit. I actually do love teaching, so it's kind of cool to get a little paycheck from that. And one of the perks of teaching is having lots of vacation time from our incredibly angelic students. One way I choose to spend my vacation time is with my best friend Laura (not a teacher, but she works in sales, so comparable vacation time). She and I drink. A fair amount. We don't get blacked out drunk or messy and sloppy, but you will be hard pressed to find us on a weekend together without a drink in our hand/s. We just enjoy the constant companionship of a delicious mimosa or corona light or a nice red wine, depending on the time of day. Another thing we love to do is go to the spa.
Spas offer several advantages. First and foremost, and let's not make light of this, they are an excellent detox resource. Waking up in the morning and rolling down to the hotel spa with baggy clothes and crazy hair is literally the best feeling in the world. You don't even have to take off your makeup from the night before! You know the spa will offer a cloud of steam and heavenly eucalyptus scents that will totally transform your face and do a 180 on your hangover.
So on one of these particular detox mornings, Laura and I were feeling pretty refreshed rather quickly. Like more quickly than usual. We were ready to tackle a round of morning mimosas. And then, BAM. Epiphany. Spas don't offer booze. Wait, what? No joke, the spas in Vegas do not condone alcohol consumption. Somehow we were able to delve through our grief and find a silver lining. Surely there are others like us that would appreciate a "heads up" about the spa they are considering visiting!
And so SPAwesome was born. A website devoted solely to religious spa-goers like us that want to know some details about the facilities before they get there. It also allows us to do what we love, which let's be honest, is go to spas and write it off as a business expense. Our mission is to review as many spas as possible (i.e.: relax in a variety of locations), provide feedback for our devoted readers (i.e.: "research" while relaxing), and unite spa-goers worldwide (i.e.; find people like us). We would also like to incorporate as many "SPA" puns as possible along the way. So let's do this. It'll be SPAwesome!
